We’re only three days in and Rio has delivered like we all hoped it would. Here are the top 10 things that have gone down so far.

1. Tonga’s oiled up flag bearer stole the show

When Tonga entered the Maracanã Stadium during Rio’s Opening Ceremony, jaws around the world dropped. Who is this oil-covered, bare-chested flag bearer?! Then we all simultaneously googled to find out his name is Pita Taufatofua, and he is the first Tongan to represent his country for Taekwondo in the Olympics.

2. Australia had a golden start

On Day 1 the Aussies nabbed two gold medals. Mack Horton won the 400m freestyle and the women’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay team took the gold and broke a world record.

3. An Englishman called Mark Horton got mistaken for Mack Horton online

Oh this is great. Long story short, apparently controversial Chinese swimmer Sun Yang was taunting and splashing Horton at training. Then Horton came out and called Yang a drug cheat. Cue Chinese fans who swarmed Twitter with online abuse directed at an IT worker named Mark Horton, in a classic internet case of mistaken identity.

4. A French gymnast broke his leg and made everyone’s stomach turn

We all wanted to look away but couldn’t when Samir Ait Said suffered a shocking leg break during the qualification rounds for the men’s gymnastics. To make things worse for the poor guy, paramedics dropped him as they were taking him to an ambulance. The footage is here if you’re game enough.

5. Rio has provided lifeguards for the world’s best swimmers and the internet love it

After this tweet of a Rio lifeguard went viral, the internet just couldn’t get enough of how pointless it is to have lifeguards at the Olympics.

6. A bullet was fired at a media tent

Say what? You heard right. It was allegedly fired from a favela (slum) and intended for a security camera on a police blimp. Luckily, no one was hurt!

7. The rowers complained about the conditions after a Serbian boat capsized

Serbian duo Milos Vasic’s and Nenad Benik’s boat capsized during a race, prompting rowers to blast the conditions. Words such as “horrific”, “unrowable” and “the toughest conditions I have ever rowed in” were used.

8. A Syrian refugee who pushed a boat for 3 hours while crossing to Greece won her heat

Now THIS is a good backstory. Yusra Mardini, a member of the first-ever Refugee Team at the Olympics, once pushed a boat of 18 people through the ocean with her sister, when the group was fleeing to Greece. The inspiring 18-year-old won the opening heat of the women’s 100-metre butterfly.

9. Djokovic and the Williams sisters were dumped out of the first rounds

World tennis no. 1 Novak Djokovic has already been knocked out of the men’s singles, proving that he is in fact, human. His defeater was Juan Martin del Potro, who also beat Djokovic in the bronze medal match at the London Olympics in 2012. It’s also been confirmed that Serena and Venus Williams are human. The powerhouse sisters lost their first-ever Olympics doubles match.

10. Michael Phelps won his 19th gold medal

Now this guy may not be human. He and and his teammates won the men’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay. Phelps has extended his record as the most decorated Olympian of all time, with 23 medals in total.
